Procedure

To a stirred solution of 368 (534 mg, 1.62 mmol) in DCM (5 mL) was added 4M HCl (811 μL, 3.24 mmol) in dioxane and stirring was continued for 12 h. The mixture was diluted with ether, filtered and dried to afford 225 mgs (52%) of (R)-4-amino-4-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)butanenitrile hydrochloride (370) as a white solid.
