Reaction Steps
Acetic anhydride (1.2 mL, 12.8 mmol) is added to a suspension of ethyl 3-hydroxy-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate (2.0 g, 12.8 mmol) in 30 mL of acetic acid. The reaction mixture is stirred at RT for 2 h. The solvent is removed in vacuo, and the remaining solid is washed with water, collected by vacuum filtration, and dried in vacuo to give the title compound as a white solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.45 (1H, s), 8.27 (1H, bs), 4.38 (2H, q), 2.64 (3H, s), 1.38 (3H, t).
