Procedure
A 1 N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (10 mL) is added to a slurry of ethyl 3-methoxy-1-pyrimidin-2-yl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate (1.1 mg, 4.43 mmol) in 30 mL of EtOH. The reaction mixture becomes homogeneous and is stirred for 2 h at RT. Water (2-3 mL) is added, and the solution is cooled to 0° C. and acidified to pH=2-3 with cone. HCl. Most of the EtOH is removed in vacuo, and the resultant mixture is filtered. The collected solid is dried in vacuo to give the title compound as a white solid.
