Procedure
A mixture of 1,3-diol, 2-hydrazino (7C) (158 mg, 0.35 mmol) and p-toluene sulfonic acid monohydrate (6.8 mg, 0.035 mmol) in 10 mL anhydrous acetone was stirred at rt for 36 h, until the starting material was consumed as indicated by TLC (10:1/CH2Cl2/EtOAc). The reaction mixture was quenched with 5% NaHCO3 and extracted by CH2Cl2. The combined organic layers were dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, and removed in vacuo. Purification by flash column chromatography on silica gel afforded the desired product as a white solid (93%).
