Reaction Steps

A mixture of 5-bromo-4-vinyl-2-benzofuran-1(3H)-one (2.0 g, 8.37 mmol) and Pd/C (400 mg) in 50 mL of MeOH was stirred at room temperature under H2 (1 atm) overnight, and then filtered. The filtrate was concentrated. The resulting oil was purified by column chromatography to give 5-bromo-4-ethyl-2-benzofuran-1(3H)-one.
