A mixture of #100 (200 mg, 0.912 mmol, 1 eq.) and 6 N aqueous hydrochloric acid (12.3 mL, 73.8 mmol, 81 eq.) was heated at reflux overnight. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo to give the single enantiomer #101 (195 mg) as an off-yellow solid, which was used in the next step without further purification.
