Using procedure 49, 2-(dipropylamino)-2,3-dihydro-1H-indene-5,6-dicarboxylate (92, 0.35 g, 1.0 mmol) was treated with 3-phenylpropylamine(0.19 mL, 1.4 mmol). Purification using silica gel, eluting with 9:1 CH2Cl2 /acetone, afforded an oil that was converted to an HCl salt and recrystallized from hot MeOH/EtOAc to give 114 as a white solid (m.p. 222-223° C.).
