Hydrochloric Acid → Methyl 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoate
Participants
| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | Hydrochloric Acid | HCID 313 | — |
| Reactant | Methanol | HCID 887 | — |
| Reactant | 6-Hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid | HCID 85557 | — |
| Product | Methyl 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoate | HCID 390995 | — |
Reaction Steps
6-Hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid is heated under reflux for 2 h in anhydrous methanol which had previously been saturated with HCl gas. The mixture is concentrated, the residue is recrystallized once each from methanol and from acetone and methyl 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoate is obtained.
