Procedure
Into a stirred solution of 4-amino-2-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)phenylacetic acid hydrochloride (0.95 g, 3.5 mmol) from Step 6 above in MeOH (25 mL) at 0° C. was bubbled HCl gas for 10 min. The resulting solution was warmed to ambient temperature and stirred for 14 h. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give methyl 4-amino-2-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)phenylacetate hydrochloride as a solid (HPLC retention time=5.6 min (method A)).
