Procedure

A solution of 1.02 g (2 mmol) of 7-[3-t-butoxycarbonylamino-1-pyrrolidinyl]-6,8-difluoro-1-(4-fluorophenyl)-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid and 25 ml of trifluoroacetic acid is stirred at room temperature until gas evolution ceases. The solvent is evaporated and the residue treated with 1N sodium hydroxide and diluted with water. The pH is adjusted to 5.5 with 6N hydrochloric acid. The precipitate is filtered washed with water and ether to give the title compound.
