Procedure
A solution of 4-[2-(2-[2,2,2-trifluoroethyl]guanidino)pyrid-6-yloxy]butyronitrile in a mixture of CHCl3 (10 ml.) and MeOH (5 ml.) was saturated with HCl gas at 0° and then kept at 0° for 3 days. The solution was evaporated to dryness and the residue shaken with a mixture of CHCl3 and aqueous K2CO3. The CHCl3 phase was dried and evaporated to dryness to give methyl 4-[2-(2-[2,2,2-trifluoroethyl]guanidino)pyrid-6-yloxy]butyrimidate (0.8 g.) which was used without further purification.
