Procedure
A powerful stream of hydrogen chloride gas from a cylinder is passed into 476 g (3.25 moles) of 2-chloromethylene-3,3-dimethyltetrahydrofuran, with ice-cooling. The gas is absorbed completely and the internal temperature rises up to 30° C. After complete saturation with hydrogen chloride, the reaction mixture is subsequently stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. Excess hydrogen chloride is initially stripped off using a water pump, and the mixture is then distilled under a high vacuum. 531 g (90% of theory) of 1,5-dichloro-3,3-dimethyl-2-pentanone of boiling point 85°-90° C./0.3 mbar are obtained. ##STR101##
