m-Chloroperbenzoic acid (0.216 g) was added to 5-methyl-2H-1,4-thiazin-3(4H)-one (0.129 g) in dry acetone (4 ml) under ice-cooling and the mixture was stirred for 2 hours. Water was added to the mixture and the solution was stirred for 30 minutes. Then, the reaction mixture was further stirred at ambient temperature for 3 hours. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the residue was chromatographed on silica gel (Wakogel C-200) column, using ethyl acetate-n-hexane (=2:1) as an eluant to give 2-hydroxy-5-methyl-2H-1,4-thiazin-3(4H)-one (0.068 g, yield 46.9%) as white crystals.
