Procedure
A mixture of N-{2-[4-(1-pyrazolyl)methylphenoxy]ethyl}phthalimide (2.79 g), hydrazine hydrate (0.47 g) and methanol was heated at reflux under stirring for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was then concentrated under reduced pressure to remove most of the methanol, to which methylene chloride (200 ml) was added. The organic layer was washed with 2N sodium hydroxide, dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure, which afforded 1.69 g of 2-[4-(1-pyrazolyl)methylphenoxy]ethylamine as a colorless oil. Yield, 97%.
