Procedure

6-(N,N-Di-methylamino)hexanoyl 2-methyl-2-imidazoline (50.00 g, 0.222 mol), acetonitrile (150 mL), and methyl ρ-toluenesulfonate (41.32 g, 0.222 mol) are combined in a 500 mL three-necked round-bottomed flask equipped with reflux condenser, argon inlet, and magnetic stirrer. The mixture is heated for 1.3 h, cooled to room temperature, and concentrated by rotary evaporation at 50° C. to give a gold-brown solid. Drying at room temperature at 0.2 mm Hg for 18 h affords the title QSBA, 91.41 g as a solid.
