Procedure
20 g (98.5 mmol) of 2-fluoro-6-trifluoromethyl-phenyl-acetonitrile is dissolved in 150 ml of methanol. It is adjusted to pH 10 with sodium hydroxide solution and heated to 40° C. Then, 15 ml (132.3 mmol) of hydrogen peroxide (30%) is instilled, diluted with 25 ml of water, and the pH is kept between 9-10 by simultaneous addition of sodium hydroxide solution. A solid precipitates with foaming. After completion of the addition, it is stirred for 30 more minutes, allowed to cool off, suctioned off from the solid, washed with water and dried in a vacuum. The title compound is obtained in crystalline form.
