0.076 g (0.000233 mol) of [5-(4-benzyloxymethyl-piperidin-1-ylmethyl)-2-methyl-pyrimidin-4-yl]-amine was dissolved in 1.2 ml of methanol and treated with 1.1 ml of 2.1M methanolic HCl. After adding some diethyl ether a colourless precipitate separated. This was filtered off under suction, washed and dried in a high vacuum. 0.044 g (47%) of [5-(4-benzyloxymethyl-piperidin-1-ylmethyl)-2-methyl-pyrimidin-4-yl]-amine dihydrochloride was obtained as colourless crystals; m.p. >247° (dec.).
