0.63 g (0.002 mol) of ethyl 5-(2-amino-4,5-dichlorophenyl)-3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate was dissolved in 10 ml of dimethylformamide and boiled under reflux for 1/2 hr. The mixture was cooled, the suspension was treated with 50 ml of ethanol, suction filtered and dried in a vacuum. Yield: 0.18 g (33%) of 7,8-dichloro-4-hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrazolo[4,3-c]quinolin-3-one as beige crystals; m.p. >350° C.
