Hydrogenation of 1.5 g of 2-[(2-fluorophenyl)-hydroxy-methyl]-3-benzyloxy-1-(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-1H-pyridin-4-one analogously to Example 1and recrystallisation from ethanol yield 2-[(2-fluorophenyl)-hydroxy-methyl]-3-hydroxy-1-(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-1H-pyridin-4-one in the form of colourless crystals. M.p.: 177°-178° C.
