Reaction Steps

A stirred mixture of 1-phenylmethyleneamino-3-(4-chlorobutyl)-2-imidazolidinone (36.4 g, 0.1301 mole), acetone (700 ml) and sodium iodide (42.9 g, 0.2862 mole) is heated to reflux which is maintained for 24 hours. The mixture is filtered hot, removing the solid. After cooling, the filtrate is poured into H2O (2000 ml) and stirred 1 hour. The solid is collected, washed with H2 O, and air-dried to give 31.4 g, (0.0845 mole) of 1-phenylmethyleneamino-3-(4-iodobutyl)-2-imidazolidinone.
