Procedure

In 10 ml of 28% ammonia water 0.5 g of (2S)-N-[(2R,4R)-[3-(S-acetyl-3-mercaptopropanoyl)-2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-4-thiazolidinyl]carbonyl]serine is dissolved. The solution is stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes, and acidified with hydrochloric acid after removing excess ammonia. The separated oil is extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer is washed with saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and ethyl acetate is removed to give 0.4 g (88%) of the titled compound.
