Procedure
30 g of 3-(3-cyano-2,4,6-triiodophenyl)propionic acid is introduced into a solution of 8 g of caustic soda in 100 ml of water. The solution is then maintained for 3 hours at 60° C., decolorized by repeated treatment with active carbon, and brought to pH 1 by adding concentrated hydrochloric acid. After several hours of agitation in an ice bath, the precipitate is vacuum-filtered, washed with water, and dried at 50° C. Yield: 29 g (94% of theory) of 3-(3-carbamoyl-2,4,6-triiodophenyl)propionic acid as a white powder, mp>280° C.
