Reaction Steps

To a 500 ml round-bottom flask was added 0.3 mole of 9-anthracenemethylacrylate, 0.5 mole of 2-hydroxyethylacrylate, 0.2 mole of methylmethacrylate, 300 g of THF, and 0.1-3 g of AIBN. The resulting solution was stirred at 60-75° C. for 5-20 hours under nitrogen atmosphere. The reaction mixture was precipitated in ethyl ether or n-hexane. The precipitate was filtered and dried to provide poly[9-anthracenemethylacrylate/2-hydroxyethylacrylate/methylmethacrylate] copolymer of Formula 19. Yield: 80%.
