Procedure

Sodium borohydride (0.009 g) in methanol (0.5 ml) was added to a solution of 2-chloro-5-[(E)-(5,6-dihydro-3(4H)-pyridinylidene)methyl]-N-(tricyclo[3.3.1.13,7]dec-1-ylmethyl)-benzamide (0.046 g, Example 88a,) in methanol (1.5 ml). The reaction mixture was stirred for 4 h under an atmosphere of nitrogen at room temperature. Concentrated hydrochloric acid (0.01 ml) was added and the mixture was evaporated under reduced pressure. An aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (2M, 2 ml) was added to rebasify the residue followed by water (10 ml) and dichloromethane (10 ml). The layers were partitioned and the aqueous layer was extracted further with dichloromethane (2×10 ml). The organic extracts were combined, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound as a white powder (0.024 g).
