To a solution of 36.0 g (117 mmol) of 4-benzyl-3,6-dihydro-2H-pyridine-1-carboxylic acid benzyl ester in 250 ml CH2Cl2 were added 40.9 g (166 mmol, ˜70%) MCPBA. The reaction mixture was stirred for 2 hours and a 1N NaOH-solution was added. The aqueous phase was extracted twice with CH2Cl2 and the combined organic layers were washed with 1 N NaOH, dried over MgSO4 and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give 37.6 g (116 mmol, 99%) of (1R,6S) and (1S,6R)-6-benzyl-7-oxa-3-aza-bicyclo[4.1.0]heptane-3-carboxylic acid benzyl ester as an oil.
