Methylamine (1 mL) was condensed at −78° C. into a flask containing 1,2,3,5,10,10a-hexahydropyrrolo[1,2-b]isoquinolin-3,10-dione (5.54 mmol, 1.113 g). CH2Cl2 (30 mL) was added, and TiCl4 (2.77 mmol, 2.77 mL of 1 M solution in toluene) was gradually added and the mixture was warmed up to room temperature and stirred for 20 hours. Petroleum ether (20 mL) was added and then the mixture was filtered through CELITE. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to give 10-methylimino-1,2,3,5,10,10a-hexahydropyrrolo[1,2-b]isoquinolin-3-one as a red oil (1.28 g).
