Ethyl (R)-2-{3-[1-(acenaphthen-1-yl)piperidin-4-yl]-2,3-dihydro-2-oxo-benzoimidazol-1-yl}acetate (2.6 g, 5.8 mmol) was dissolved in ethanol (10 ml), 2N-aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (10 ml) was added and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hr. The reaction mixture was poured into water, 1N-hydrochloric acid was added for neutralization, and the mixture was extracted with chloroform. The extract was washed with water and saturated brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, and concentrated. The obtained solid was washed with ethyl acetate to give the title compound (2.4 g) as pale-yellow crystals.
