Procedure

To an ice-cooled mixture of 6.81 g of 1-ethyl-imidazolidine-2-thion and 3.6 g of NaNO2 in 440 ml of dichloromethane 63 ml of 1 M HCl are added dropwise and the mixture obtained is stirred for ca 10 minutes. A two phase system is obtained and the phases are separated. The organic phase is washed with H2O, dried over Na2SO4 and the solvent is evaporated off. Solid 1-ethyl-3-nitrosoimidazolidine-2-thion is obtained.
