3 g of potassium carbonate and 0.8 g of palladium tetrakis(triphenylphosphine) are added to a solution of 2 g of ethyl 3-bromo-1H-pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyridine-2-carboxylate and 1.5 g of 4-nitrophenylboronic acid in 50 ml of dioxane. The mixture is refluxed for 20 hours, and then filtered. The filtrate is concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue is purified by chromatography on a silica column, elution being carried out with a mixture of cyclohexane and ethyl acetate (50/50 by volume), to give 0.52 g of ethyl 3-(4-nitrophenyl)-1H-pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyridine-2-carboxylate, the characteristics of which are as follows:
