Procedure

In a manner similar to that of Example 1(i), by reaction of 5.3 g (17.7 mmol) of methyl 3′-hydroxy-2-tert-butylbiphenyl-4-carboxylate with 8.46 g (19 mmol) of 3,4-bis(benzoyloxymethyl)benzyl bromide and 2.54 g (18 mmol) of potassium carbonate, the desired product is obtained in the form of a yellow oil (m=11 g; Y=94%).
