Procedure

Add 30 gms. of the mesylate prepared in step (a) to 300 ml. methylethyl ketone (MEK), then add 90 gm. sodium iodide and reflux for about 30 minutes. Remove the solvent and extract with methylene chloride to yield trans 1,4-bis iodomethyl cyclohexane.
