Procedure
To 10 mL of methanol add 1.75 g (2.10 mmol) of 2-[[(methylsulfonyl)oxy]methyl]cyclopropanecarbonitrile and 2.0 g (27 mmol) of diethylamine. Reflux the reaction and monitor by thin-layer chromatography. Upon completion remove the solvent in vacuo and add 50 mL methylene chloride and 50 mL sat. sodium carbonate. Separate the organic layer and dry over Na2SO4. Filter the drying agent and remove the solvent in vacuo to obtain the title compound.
