To 5.78 g of cytosine were added 112 ml of hexamethyldisilazane and 100 mg of ammonium sulfate. The solution was heated to 115° C.-120° C. for 1 and 1/2 hours with stirring and the excess hexamethyldisilazane subsequently removed. The mixture was cooled to 60° C. and reconstituted in 40 ml of 1,2-dichloroethane to form a homogenous solution of bis-trimethylsilylcytosine.
