To 5.9 g of cytosine were added 112 ml of hexamethyldisilazane and 25 mg of ammonium sulfate. The solution was heated to 120° C.-125° C. for 3 hours with stirring and the excess hexamethyldisilazane was subsequently removed. The resulting solid residue was reconstituted in 35 ml of dichloromethane and cooled to 10° C. to form a homogenous bis-trimethylsilylcytosine solution.
