To 5.78 g of cytosine were added 112 ml of hexamethyldisilazane and 50 mg of ammonium sulfate. The solution was heated to 115° C.-120° C. for 1 and 1/2 hours with stirring and the excess hexamethyldisilazane was subsequently removed. The resulting solid residue was reconstituted in 40 ml of 1,2-dichloromethane at 23° C. to form a homogenous bis-trimethylsilyl cytosine solution.
