The title compound was prepared as described in General Method 6 from 1.00 g (8.61 mmol) of methyl acetoacetate, 0.38 g (9.50 mmol) of sodium hydride, 4.5 mL of 2.1 M nBuLi (9.45 mmol), and 1.53 g (7.75 mmol) of 4-methyl-1-(4-methyl-thiazol-5-yl)-pentan-3-one (prepared in Example C-2.) The crude compound was used without purification in the next step.
