Procedure

N-allylpiperazine (37 g) was added to 30 g of 2-ethylthio-4(3H)-quinazolinone [J. Med. Chem., 11, 392 (1968)], and the mixture was stirred at 140° to 160° C. for 5 hours in a stream of nitrogen. After cooling, the reaction mixture was suspended in ethyl acetate and filtered. The resulting crude crystals were recrystallized from ethanol/ethyl acetate to give 35 g of 2-(4-allyl-l-piperazinyl)-4(3H)-quinazolinone.
