Procedure
5.0 g of 8-bromo-1-octene, 8.2 g of 2-methylbutyl 4'-hydroxybiphenyl-4-carboxylate obtained in Example 1.(1), and 4.0 g pf potassium carbonate were refluxed in acetone for 20 hours. After the reaction the resulting reaction mixture was diluted with dichloromethane, and the inorganic substance was filtered out. Subsequently, the solvent was distilled out under reduced pressure, and the resulting residue was purified by column chromatography to obtain 7.5 g of the objective biphenyl derivative. (Yield : 73%).
