Procedure
To a solution of 4-methylamino-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (0.42 g) in DCM (10 mL) was added triethylamine (0.30 mL) followed by methoxyacetyl chloride (0.20 mL). After stirring for 3 h the reaction mixture was then diluted with DCM, washed with sodium bicarbonate solution, dried (MgSO4) and the solvent removed in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash chromatography to yield 4-[(2-methoxy-acetyl)-methyl-amino]-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (0.293 g). Treatment of this compound with HCl in DCM/MeOH yielded the desired amine, which was isolated as the hydrochloride salt.
