To 4-(4-Benzyl-phenyl)-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (1.7 g, 4.8 mmol) was added 4 N HCl in dioxane (25 ml). The reaction solution was stirred at rt for 1 h. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration and washed with ethyl acetate to furnish the title compound (1.45 g, 98%): MS (ESI) m/z 326 (M+1); 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 3.21 (br, 4H), 3.36 (br, 4H), 3.86 (s, 2H), 6.98 (m, 2H), 7.13-7.21 (m, 5H), 7.25-7.29 (m, 2H).
