Procedure
To a solution of 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-phenylthiazol-4-yl acetonitrile (2.33 g) in N,N-dimethylformamide (30 ml) were added sodium azide (1.40 g) and ammonium chloride (1.3 g), and the mixture was stirred at 90° C. for 12 hours. After removing the solvent under reduced pressure, ethyl acetate and water were added to the residue. The organic layer was collected, dried and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was recrystallized from chloroform and methanol to obtain 5-[2-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-phenyl-thiazol-4-ylmethyl]tetrazole (1.75 g).
