3-(1-Hydroxyphthalazin-6-yl)-4-methylbenzoic acid (2.71 g, 9.67 mmol) was suspended in methanol (96.7 mL), thionyl chloride (2.12 mL, 29.0 mmol) was added and the mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 1.5 h and at RT overnight. The mixture was concentrated to give the title compound. MS (ES+): 295(M+H)+.
