In a 50 ml three necked flask fitted with a magnetic stirrer, under inert atmosphere, 0.1 g of 4-(2,2-difluoro-vinyl)-pyrrolidin-2-one a5 (0.6 mmol) is heated in HBr (62% w/w in H2O, 10 ml) for 0.75 h at reflux. The reaction mixture is cooled down to room temperature, diluted with water and extracted with CH2Cl2 (3 times), dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford 0.076 g of 4-(2-bromo-2,2-difluoro-ethyl)-pyrrolidin-2-one a6 (49%).
