To a solution of ethyl 4-(3,4-dichlorobenzyl)benzoate (Preparation 170, 240 mg, 0.78 mmol) in THF/MeOH/water (4:3:2, 7.2 mL) was added lithium hydroxide (65 mg, 1.56 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4 hours. The solvent was evaporated in vacuo and the residue acidified with 1M hydrochloric acid solution. The crude product was extracted with chloroform/methanol, and the extract dried over Na2SO4 and the solvent evaporated in vacuo to give the title compound as a white solid (160 mg, 73%)
