To a solution of 5.00 g. (0.024 mole) of the product of Procedure 30 in 15 ml. H2O and 4 ml. HOAc (0°) was added (portionwise) 1.72 g. (0.024 mole) NaNO2. The mixture was stirred at 24° for 30 min., cooled to 0° and filtered to yield 4.44 g. (72%) of a purple solid, mp 203°-205°d.
