To 1-benzyl-5-methoxy-3-methylindoline (78.5 mg, 0.310 mmol) was added a solution of 50% hydrogen bromide-acetic acid solution (0.80 mL) at room temperature. After the reaction mixture was stirred at 105° C. overnight, the reaction mixture was neutralized by saturated NaHCO3 aqueous solution, and the solution was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with brine, and dried over MgSO4. After filtration, the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate=90/10 to 80/20) to obtain the title compound (59.5 mg, 80%).
