Procedure
To the 2,6-dichloro-7-(4-methoxybenzyl)-6,7-dihydro-1H-purine 6 (10 g, 32.46 mmol) was added NaOH (1 M, 100 ml). The reaction was stirred at 90° C. for 90 minutes. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and then was neutralized by HCl (2 M) to pH 7. The desired product was precipitated out and was collected by filtration. The solid was air dried and placed in oven over night at 80° C. to afford 2-chloro-7-(4-methoxybenzyl)-1H-purin-6(7H)-one 7.
