To a solution of 5.7 g 1-(2-chloro-benzenesulfonyl)-piperidine-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (17 mmol) in 30 mL THF: methanol:water (2:1:1) was added 1.08 g LiOH H2O (25.7 mmol). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 5-6 h and all volatiles were evaporated to dryness. The compound was used in the consecutive step without further purification.
