4-[1-(4′-tert-Butyl-2,6-dimethyl-biphenyl-4-yloxy)-3-methyl-butyl]-benzoic acid methyl ester (2.90 g) is dissolved in MeOH (20 mL) and treated with 5N NaOH (3 mL). The reaction is stirred at room temperature for 5 h, acidified with 5N HCl and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic portion is dried and concentrated to provide 2.69 g of the titled compound.
