Procedure
Hydroxylamine hydrochloride (3.47 g, 50.0 mmol) and sodium acetate (4.27 g, 52.0 mmol) were dissolved in 15 mL of water and added to a solution of 2-(3-(trifluoromethyl)benzyl)hexahydrocyclopenta[c]pyrrol-4(5H)-one (11.33 g, 40 mmol) from Step C in ethanol (80 mL). The reaction was brought to reflux for 5 minutes and allowed to cool to 70° C. After 1 hour, the reaction mixture was cooled, and the solvent was removed in vacuo to give (E)-2-(3-(trifluoromethyl)benzyl)hexahydrocyclopenta[c]pyrrol-4(5H)-one oxime which was used without additional purification in the next step.
